Squared Circle Thoughts | WWE Elimination Chamber 2017

So, another WWE ppv (or Network special, whatever) is in the books. This time, the SmackDown-exclusive Elimination Chamber. This is just going to be my quick match by match thoughts on the show. Pretty decent show overall with some great moments. This is a new thing i’m doing with this blog in the wrestling department. So, without any further adieu, here we go.

Becky Lynch vs Mickie James

The first of the unprecedented 3 womens matches on the card and a pretty decent opener overall. Personally, I would’ve given the heel (Mickie) the win here and save Becky winning for a later date, but it is what it is. Still a pretty good opener overall so I can’t complain too much.

Apollo Crews & Kalisto vs Dolph Ziggler

This was pretty much a throwaway match at best that I didn’t really care for. I like heel Ziggler but so far he’s been booked pretty poorly. The pre-match attack on Kalisto was pretty cool and added a tiny bit of intrigue, but still not nearly enough to fully engage me. This is the first 2 on 1 Handicap Match, by the way where the heel is outnumbered against 2 faces. Kinda ass-backwards if you ask me, but whatever. Overall this was an ok match, but again, just more or less a throwaway one. Ziggler lost, which shouldn’t have happened if they’re trying to make him a mean heel, but again, I didn’t care enough about this one anyway, so fuck it.

American Alpha vs The Usos vs The Vaudevillians vs The Ascension vs Breezango vs Heath Slater & Rhyno (Tag Team title)

Another match I didn’t really care too much for. I like American Alpha and the fiasco towards the end with the Usos was pretty cool, and I hope that’s the tag title match at Wrestlemania, but other than that, the match was overall another thrown together clusterfuck match with mostly scrubs. Hopefully we don’t get another one of these at Wrestlemania and get a proper tag team match instead. It looks like the Usos vs Alpha are the direction they’re going in and i’m fine with that.

Nikki Bella vs Natalya

This was a match that has been built up to for months now and after the ending, it looks like it’s gonna trudge on some more. I’m not a big fan of either of these ladies, but this was another decent match. Nothing much else to say. Meh.

Randy Orton vs Luke Harper

2nd best match of the night! Luke Harper is one of the best on the entire roster and is a pretty good match for Orton. This whole Orton/Wyatt Family storyline has been building for months now and it looks like it’ll finally culminate at Wrestlemania. Hopefully the match we’re getting is a good one and worth while. This match though was a banger and I hope to see more with these 2 in the future.

Alexa Bliss vs Naomi (Womens title)

  1. I fucking love Alexa Bliss
  2. Good match and i’m happy for Naomi. Well deserved. Best womens match out of the three.

Elimination Chamber Match (John Cena vs AJ Styles vs Bray Wyatt vs Baron Corbin vs Dean Ambrose vs The Miz) (WWE title)

This was a great match. Match of the night, for sure. Great in-ring action, great story telling and just exiting all around. Baron Corbin looked like a beast, especially after his elimination. I totally won’t mind seeing him vs Dean Ambrose at ‘Mania. AJ Styles was awesome as always, especially him and Cena, and the ending I kinda saw coming, but it was great and i’m glad it happened. Bray Wyatt finally winning his first singles championship in the 4 years he’s been on the main roster. Awesome moment and well deserved. Hopefully he and Orton can put on a good one at ‘Mania. We shall see.

Other notes: The Carmella/James Ellsworth skybox thing was pointless and dumb & I guess we are indeed getting Cena & Bella vs Miz & Maryse at ‘Mania. Yippie.

Overall, a decent show at best with 2 great matches and one really good one. I’m glad Naomi and Bray finally got their big moment after all these years and i’m even more glad we’re not getting Cena vs Orton for the 800th time at ‘Mania.

Overall rating… Just kidding. I don’t do that corny shit.

Until next time.
